Q&A: Google+ Means More Subscribers

Q: How do I add a link so people can join my mailing list from my Google+ page?

A: There’s no time like the present to make sure you’re ready to be seen by everyone currently roaming the Google+ space, as well as those who are rapidly starting to dip their toes in it.

One of the best ways to do that is to make sure that your local Google+ page has all of the information and links you need to both promote your newsletters or events, and grow your contact lists as well.

Here’s how.

Get Your Links Together

There’s no doubt that you’ll want to add a Join My List link to your page. It’s a great way to bring new subscribers into the fold. However, you may want to think about adding links to the following things as well:
  • Archived Newsletters – Give your would-be subscribers a taste of what kind of great content you're offering them.
  • Surveys – Ask your questions to a wider audience and get even more useful feedback.
  • Registration pages – If you're running an event, this can help you fill seats.
Link Them From Google+

There are two places in your Google+ page where you could potentially put a link or two. There’s a dedicated section for links called “Recommended Link” and your “Introduction” box.

Adding links to your Introduction:
  1. Click the Edit Profile button to get started.
  2. Click the “Introduction” section so you can edit it.

  3. Place your cursor where you want your Join My List link to go, and click “Link” in your editing bar.
  4. Type in the text you want people to see (such as “Subscribe Now!”).
  5. Paste in your Join My List link in the “To what URL should this link go?” field.

  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Save.
Adding Links to the Recommended Link Section:
  1. Click the Edit Profile button.
  2. Click the “Recommended Link” section.

  3. Click “Add custom link”.
  4. Go ahead and type in the text you want to display in the Label field and the link itself in the URL field.

  5. Click Save when you are done.
Just like that, your local Google+ page is ready to shine! Just keep in mind that since the “Introduction” is meant to be a briefer synopsis for you and your business or organization, you may want to consider leaving the bulk of your links for the “Recommended Link” section.
