Using Archive as a Multi-Tool

One of my favorite celebrity chefs has a bit of a personal crusade against uni-taskers. You know, those tools that only do one thing for you, or that you only use in a single situation. That got me thinking about how our archive feature is typically used and about the different ways you can use it in addition to posting your past newsletters on your website. What do I mean, exactly?

Use Emails to Show off Your Archive

Archive was built to be an easy way to point potential subscribers to your best content. But what about being more direct with your new subscribers or even ones that have been with you for a while? If you include a box in your newsletters for archived content, you can:
  • Highlight your best stuff. Whether it’s the issue that was opened the most or one that got tons of positive feedback, use an archive link to keep it alive and useful.
  • Make relevant connections. Even if you aren’t writing a series, you can show subscribers how your information relates and connects across the months by including links.
  • Save important things from being lost. When an issue includes answers to your top questions or gives essential details about you, your business, or your organization, you’ll want to make sure it can be found. Link to it and it’ll stay on the radar for all your subscribers.

Enhance Your Signature Line

Every day we communicate with people through personal, non-marketing emails. Including a link to your latest issue or your archive homepage gives you a smooth, integrated way to show off what you have to offer.

Get a Friend to Help

There have been times that I’ve seen great content in the email newsletters of other businesses and I know my customers would be interested in it. Getting permission to include links to that archived content not only provides more for my customers, but can open up reciprocation that might bring me more subscribers too.

In the end, links to your archived content can be as flexible as you want them to be. Let us know what sort of content you are archiving and how you link to it in our comments below. Also, check out some of these resources to learn more about archiving and emails in general.
