Use an App to Track Coupons

Finding an efficient way to track who is using the coupons you include in your emails has always been a hot topic. We’ve covered a couple ways to do this in previous posts (and in great forum postings in the Community too). But, if you’ve got an Android phone, boy have we got a new alternative for you!

The “Coupon Tracker for Constant Contact” is an app for your Android phone that allows you to create unique, scannable QR codes that you can insert into your Constant Contact coupons.

  • The app lets you to scan those coupons as your customers hand them over.
  • It recognizes which email address that unique coupon was sent to and puts those addresses in a special list for you in Constant Contact. That way, you can send an email out to those coupon users if you want to target them for future promotions.
  • It will also tell you if the coupon has already been scanned since it knows if an email address already exists in that list. One coupon, one use!
Excited yet? Hope so! Here’s how you go about putting this all in place.

Get and Use the App

While on your phone, go ahead and download the app by going to the Android App Marketplace. Once you’ve installed and opened the app, you’ll want to log into it using your Constant Contact user name and password.

Once you’ve done that, you’ll see four icons that show you all your options.

From here you can:

  • Create Coupon – When you click Create Coupon you’ll be prompted to type in your email address and the name you want to give your new coupon. Then the app emails you instructions about how to use the new QR code in your Constant Contact emails.

  • Scan Coupon – Just click the Scan Coupon icon and you’ll start the bar code scanner. Point the phone’s camera at the QR code on a contact’s coupon, and the app will read it. It will also add the contact to a list of people in Constant Contact who’ve already used that coupon.

That is, of course, unless this person has already used this coupon. In that case, the window will let you know the contact is already on the list.

  • List Coupons – When you click the List Coupons icon, you’ll see all the lists that have been created to track your coupon users in Constant Contact, along with the number of contacts who’ve been added to it.

  • Add New Contact – This option allows you to quickly add a brand new contact into your Constant Contact account. Just click the icon and you can enter an email address, first name, last name, phone number, and select in which lists they belong.

That’s it! Now you have more coupon control than you’ve ever had before. Keep a watch out as we look to expand this for other phone types. In the meantime, take a look at other ways you can use coupons in your emails.
